admin | October 20, 2009 | 7:19 pm

Saved by Wesley!  The latest development has been that the YMCA will not be able to offer after “class” care due to manning issues that have come up unexpectedly…

Mr Billy at

Wesley United Methodist Church

at 1350 Hunakai Street (across from First Hawaiian Bank) has come to the rescue.  He will be providing those needing

After “class” Care for $10/day.

Here are some of the details…

  • Children will be picked up after class
  • Transported to Wesley (just like normal school days)
  • Parents will picked up their children at Wesley no later than 5:30pm.

I have sign up sheets and program details for all interested or you can call Mr Billy Henson at 732-3273.

This whole event and program has definitely been a community effort…mahalo nui loa for everyone for your continued support in making the CONNECTIONS! program possible.

The Countdown Begins!
admin | October 16, 2009 | 6:44 am

It seems like only yesterday that a group of parents at Kahala got together to find out what we all wanted to do regarding furlough Fridays…We all voiced our desires.

  • We want more than child care!
  • We want our children engaged and learning!
  • We want our teachers in the classrooms!
  • We want a program at Kahala!

After much listening from both parents and a few experienced teachers, the plan for an enrichment program was born.  It tickled my heart and exercised my mind not to become passionate about what was happening.  It wasn’t exactly what I had dreamt about just 4 weeks prior, when I sheepishly sent a proposal to provide an enrichment program for 3rd thru 5th grade.

I still couldn’t believe it.  Kahala was possibly getting their enrichment program back-maybe.  It wasn’t going to happen exactly like before, but the possibility was surely closer than ever.  Its funny how things work, especially when the PTO decided not to provide a program to fill the void left by furlough Fridays.  This left me to either shelve the plan and move on to help with the HawaiiEducationMatters March or to keep moving full speed ahead…on my own with alittle help from my friends.

You guessed it.  Here I am moving at light speed to ensure an engaged and learning environment for all students to start in just 7 days.  I can only hope that the energy and spark we saw from the parents will light our CONNECTIONS! classrooms come Oct 23rd.  We’ll be ready!

Save alittle with an early bird special–available for all those signing up on or before Monday, Oct 19th.  Check it out at our Registration page and sign up today!

As always, if you’ve got any questions, concerns or feedback, please do NOT hesitate to call sheila at 779-3878.

A Much Needed Break?
admin | October 12, 2009 | 12:56 pm

Happy holiday!  Yes, a much needed break to spend an engaging day with the kids…

Isn’t all of our efforts greared to provide an engaging and enriching environment for the kids?  Isn’t it the really reason why we cart them around to soccer, dance & music lessons, cooking classes or even those expensive tutoring classes?

So today comes as a reminder why the push to get enriching programs back into the schools for all children…Friday CONNECTIONS! (instead of furlough Friday classes)!

Why?  It is all about ensuring they are spending time engaging their mind as well as their bodies in FUN and RELEVANT experiences.  We know (and the research shows) the more we can set a foundation of curiosity and a love for learning within an environment that invites creativity and acceptance then the easier it will be for them to see what they are learning in school REALLY does relate to the world around them.

So, what ever you are doing today…Have an fun and adventurous day!

Registration is OPEN!
admin | October 11, 2009 | 9:15 am

Yahoo…we are opening up the registration for our furlough Friday’s CONNECTIONS! program.  This really has become an opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life like no other opportunity…what a silver lining in a really dark cloud…

Can you say FUN, you got it!  I was lucky enough to attend the Hawaii Association for Education of Young Children today and have been jotting down some really cool ideals for the upcoming CONNECTIONS!

FUN, engaging and relevant is the underlying requirement to get added to my list of “experiences” for the kids!

Early Bird sign up til October 16th will save you money!  Sign up today!  Payment plans are available…check ‘em out!
